My Christmas wish

This year, I gave so much of myself.

My time.

My virtue

my knowledge

my skill

My life

my moments

Giving doesn’t always mean you will get back.

I don’t mind because I have an unending source.

Christmas has met me empty.

I am always open about my challenges so it happens that Al the plans we had for skinplus this Christmas can’t work out.

No tea party, nothing.

I’m really exhausted.

That said my wish is to be refilled from above.

Wishing everyone a merry Christmas and the best times with your family and friends.

See you in the new year.

From all of us at skinplusng and me.

TARTE FRXXX STICK REVIEW

After the glam glow mud comes tarte frxxx stick.

Okay guys, when I got this in my sephora play box i was like what’s this ? What a cute little thing. So i got down to investigating it before into tried it and here’s what I found out.

1. We know tarte cosmetics. Yes we all do and  if you don’t, here you go –
2. It’s designed to be like a quick on the go cleanser mask and exfoliator in one and I daresay it’s a genius idea.

Imagine taking this on a holiday with you. You won’t need to carry a mask or a facial wash. I usually double cleanse when I’ve used makeup so this is like a second cleanser for me.

I also rub it on spots and potential breakout areas for an extra treat and I can liken this to glam glow mud. It’s almost as good.

These days I’ve been using black soap from skinplus that’s my own product. it’s worked miracles for my acne prone skin. I also tried natural handmade soaps but that’s a story for another day.

The tarte stick was a mini sample andsept it’s like a wax stick or a deo stick kind of presentation .

It goes on really well smooth and non sticky.it washes off nicely with warm water and it leaves my skin not too tight, just absolutely fine. i sleep with it as a face mask and it does’nt stain the sheets or the pillow case. it is an absoulte little power on a stick.

Here’s what

I’ve kind of gotten into the habit of breaking products down into bits and trying to reconstruct them so maybe I will try this and definitely be back with feedback.
Now I’ve been wondering if u should blog about my diy (mostly ) skin formulating adventures .

Would you like to see that ?

A week away and products I tried

Packing for a trip is always a hassle.

You don’t want to forget important things and you don’t want to break out either.

I often use time away to test new products. I bring along my tested and trusted products and then I try new ones.

I’ve been in ibadan nigeria for a week and besides the poor network everything else has been fairly okay

I took along with me

1. Soaps from skinplusng -mango soap which I found doesn’t lather well because of all that mango juice but saved me from breakouts. It’s my own soap but I’m pretty honest about it. however when i got back i realised

it was lathering perfectly so the water is probably hard around there.

2.toner from skinplusng I didn’t use this every night but if you haven’t tried my toner you should. It’s perfect for congested skin and skin that breaks out easily.

3. Effaclar duo plus.

4. Andalou naturals super goji peptide firming and the one used the most vichy lift active firming anti wrinkle.
I took my new makeup forever artist face pallette which is a life saver. I will review it fully soon enough.

Mary kay foundation

Covergirl eyebrow pencil

Sephora pink lip gloss

La girl concealer

Makeup forever mist and fix

The pink lipstick is stila stay all day

Do you know this fine girl by any chance ?

alternatives to skin toning products

A lot of research has been done on skincare compounds since doctors and researchers discovered that some compounds being used for skin lightening were actually doing more harm than ever imagined.

we have talked about some of those compounds on instagram in the past week but there is still room for more discussion, more education and more enlightenment

what are simple alternatives to chemcial skin treatments or toxic skin compounds

first, we do say every time you need to use a cream for a specific skin issue you should be guided by a dermatologist.

naturally proven compounds found in nature that EXFOLIATE ARE

  1. PAPAYA ENZYME – PAPAIN FOUND IN PAWPAW. IT IS A FORM OF AHA
  2. PINEAPPLE ENZYMES
  3. HIBSICUS POWDER/ EXTRACTS/LEAVES/GLYCERITE
  4. WILLOW BARK POWDER A NATURAL FORM OF SALICYLIC ACID
  5. LEMON JUICE/ORANGE PEEL POWDER/CITRUS FRUITS- CITRIC ACID WHICH SMOOTHEN SKIN
  6. GOATS MILK- LACTIC ACID

SOME of these items are referred to as chemicals when extracted out of their natural state but that really depends on the line you choose to tow. chemicals are substances – any substance actually that alters the normal working of your body.

Essential oils contain substances which work as chemicals. These are now being extracted and used for specific purposes eg- fragrance or skin or aromatherapy

NATURAL PRODUCTS/ PLANTS THAT INHIBIT MELANIN

  1. AFRICAN SANDALWOOD
  2. TUMERIC
  3. LICORICE
  4. RED WINE/KNOTWEED EXTRACTS’
  5. MULBERRY EXTRACTS
  6. BEAR BERRY
  7. VITAMIN C
  8. INDIAN GOOSEBERRY
  9. ASIATIA CENTRELLA
  10. ROSE
  11. MINT
  12. YARROW
  13. CALENDULA
  14.  LAVENDER
  15. 10–14 ACT SYNERGISTICALLY WITH OTHER PLANTS
  16. SNOW MUSHROOM
  17. RUMEX
  18. PRICKLY PEAR EXTRACT
  19. Lemon extracts. (I leave this like this )

THE LIST IS ALMOST ENDLESS

The key here is that research will show you which and which to add together to give the results you desire.

SOME WORKING SYNGERGISTICALLY GIVE RESULTS BETTER AND FARTHER MAINTAINED THAN HYDROQUINONE

BRANDS TO LOOK OUT FOR ARE HIMALAYAN HERBALS AND K BEAUTY BRANDS AND I WILL DO A SERIES OF POSTS ON SPECIFIC BRANDS WHICH HAVE THE FORMULATIONS

REGULATIONS IN CERTAIN COUNTRIES DO NOT ALLOW COSMETIC MAKERS TO PUBLISH CERTAIN CLAIMS OR INCLUDE CERTAIN TERMS IN THEIR LABELS.

YOU CAN MAKE /DIY WITH SOME OF THESE HERBS AT HOME BY YOURSELF BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER TO USE A PRESERVATIVE FOR ANYTHING YOU MIX UP AND KEEP LONGER THAN 5 DAYS EVEN IN A FRIDGE AND  3 DAYS OUTSIDE A FRIDGE.

OIL BASED/ANHYDROUS FORMUALTIONS ALSO NEED ANTI FUNGAL PRESERVATIVES IF THERE ARE HERBS/ ORGANIC MATERIAL INSIDE THEM E.G DRIED FLOWERS AND THE LIKE.

NATURAL EXTRACTS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. IF YOU CHOOSE TO TOW THE LANE OF LIGHTENING YOUR SKIN BUT STILL WANT TO DO SO SAFELY BE PREPARED TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY DOING IT.

ROSEHIP FOR EXAMPLE COSTS $15 FOR A CHEAP 4OZ BOTTLE LIKE YOU CAN FIND ON AMAZON

HOWEVER, 10MLS OF ROSEHIP EXTRACT COSTS AS MUCH AS $20 AD IS THE EQUIVALENT OF 2KG OF ROSEHIPS.

IT IS EXPENSIVE TO TRY TO DO THIS NATURALLY

AT THE END YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF IF ITS REALLY WORTH THE EXPENDITURE

YOU CAN REALLY BE HAPPY IN YOUR OWN SKIN

ASK A DERMATOLOGIST/ SKIN DOCTOR ABOUT WHATEVER ISSUES YOU HAVE AND THEY CAN WALK YOU THROUGH A SAFE PRODUCT TO USE

YOU CAN ALSO DO PEELS FOR SERIOUS HYPERPIGMENTATION, LASER TREATMENTS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE. SOME KINDS OF SKIN DAMAGE MAY NOT EVER RESPOND TO NATURAL PRODUCTS ESPECIALLY WHEN THE DERMIS / DEEPER LAYERS OF SKIN ARE INVOLVED.

The final word about knuckles- the best treatment for dark knuckles is to leave them alone. dont apply any more creams made to lighten and brighten. dark knuckles are a sign of damage and excess melanin activity.

let your skin be. a simple oil like coconut oil or almond oil which is emollient and super healing can help you. results start in a few months so you have to be patient

THIS POST IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES SO I WILL REFRAIN FROM SUGGESTING ANY SKINPLUS PRODUCT HERE. HOWEVER, START TODAY AND GIVE YOUR HANDS A BREAK.
When in doubt use almond oil .. you will still be beautiful.

ALWAYS DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND BE SAFE.

You can’t have it all

I want to briefly talk about life. How you can’t get everything you want in life.

Example in today’s issue is payment options.

I enjoy the ability to work on my phone. I have never wanted a business that takes me away from my phone. Why ? It is easy. You are always with your phone and you can keep track of everything using a few apps.

You can make invoices with waveapps or invoice simple but they won’t allow you accept payments. They accept cards and all but we aren’t usa citizens for now.

You can try intuit books to say ” oh now I’m going to keep my books and accounts right”but they don’t support nigeria anyway.

Then you have our home grown paystack

Everything I need and more. Invoices. Pay by card. Pay by bank. Create one time payments. Create subscription payments. Integrate with woo commerce. Integrate with shopify but no app yet. Paystack is like the replacement for quickteller. Yes. Paystack is the new gateway for payment. There’s no app just yet.

Then there’s payant. A quick use mobile app with one time setup and no invoicing and other features on the app. The app is just a pos. For all those who keep claiming they don’t have cash. Get them!

Square register is one of the best BUT nigeria is not supported. You can only use it as a cash register operator for now. I love it all the same because i record even transaction that goes in and it helps me know what is going on.

I’ve been through the world of small business book keeping and accounting and all. Apps are much better than physical books.

I recently downloaded loystar app. It helps you save your client details for bulk sms messaging and sets up a reward system for your clients so long as sales are clocked in on the app.

However I am yet to figure out of it really accepts payments. It’s abbot difficult to manoeuvre for now and it looks a but busy.

I’m quietly waiting for a paystack app. They also have other payment options coming up for business soon and I can’t wait.

My world will then be perfect.

What does organic mean ?

Organic means a product has been made or food has been made with items and materials that are from plant or animal origin.

Note that petrochemicals are not of plant and animal origin so don’t bring vaseline here with paraffin wax. LoL.
It has to be all these things listed.

Organic is usually natural.Natural does not mean it is organic.

I hope you understand this.

Organic means that no chemical went into any of the raw materials used to make the product. No fillers like c12-15acrylate.No additives like mineral oil to increase the volume .No dimethicone to make it silky and non sticky.

Organic is actually safer. You don’t need to go about reading labels.

For now we dont have a body that certifies organic products in nigeria.

Everyone is calling their stuff organic and we have ro trust that there is integrity on the sellers end. I’m thinking of doing a compilation of really organic brands in nigeria.

In the usa there is the USDA that certifies and in the the uk the soil association does that.

So guys, have you tried any organic products ?

Have they worked ? Most importantly

Little sample reviews

I got a number of samples last year.

All the l’occitane was from the airport.

Generous nice girls at IAH. So , I didn’t get down to using the until this year not in a big hurry.

L’occitane is a brand i especially love a lot. I tried out the shea hand cream I’ve used a bigger size before and as usual it was thick, moisturising and fantastically done.
I never used the almond milk before.I didn’t like the smell but it was light and also moisturises too but not as much as the hand cream. Of course hand creams are meant to be thicker and this is for body.

I used the immortelle cream about 3 years ago and I liked it although i found it too thick for my face. Then I was always scared of breaking out. I used this on my hands and my body and it still has the beautiful soothing smell i knew of it before. None of them actually causes breakouts so I was just being cautious.

The price point is a huge limiting factor or one of these would have been my staple.

That said,I’m working on the ultimate body butter and it’s almost perfect.

I also got these pant liners called poise.

I found them very comfortable and I thought to just share in case yout come across them and you want to try them.

I got the entire pack of 3 variants for 99ç.they have a product for bladder leakage. For women who have dveloped incontinence and have leaks during the day.

Just thought to share my little sample reviews with you.

Have you tried any product from  l’occitane ?

Do you know anyone who suffers from bladder incontinence ? How do they manage it ? Share with us.
