image

Hi everyone,
To mark the end of the year, I’ll be giving out this avene thermal spa water
Kindly check the link for all the uses of the avene water.

This giveaway is open for followers of the blog and those who follow on twitter.
I can only ship this within nigeria so that further restricts the freebie.
To enter, leave a comment and say what you think the spa water will be most useful to you for.
Winner will be notified on the 7th of January 2014.

Sadly, no one entered for this.
Won’t be doing any more giveaways until the end of the year.
I had a couple planned out but it seems we aren’t ready for that yet.
Xoxo.

Asos shopping -Nigeria

A full post dedicated to asos shopping has now become a necessity.
My first Asos order was in early 2012
I’ve made orders at least once a month since then.

This information isn’t provided by asos but based solely on my experience with shopping on there.

1. Asos is based in the UK.
They have other country sites but I’ve always bought on the uk site.

2. Asos accepts nigerian cards that have been issued on an international platform.
– mastercard and visa.
Don’t use verve cards. Verve is nigerian only.

3. Your cards will be charged in naira at the going rate of the pound sterling on the day you make your purchase.
Meaning- if the pound is 246 , that’s what you pay.
If its 290 ( it happened to me oh) that’s what you’ll pay.

4. Asos offers free shipping to Nigeria and free returns.
This means if you do not like what you get for any reason, you can return it.
You will pay for shipping back to them and scan your reciept and they will pay you back in pounds, credited to the card you registered on their site.
Kindly use nipost if you want to make returns. Its cheaper.

5.Free shipping for asos . You chose standard delivery at checkout .
your order will go through royal mail in the UK and then be passed on to NiPOst when it gets to nigeria.
You will likely get

A – a calling card from nipost to come to their office and pick your parcel
B. They drop it off themselves
C. A courier company calls or drops it off.

6 . You are responsible for custom duties incurred on your parcel.
The usual thing is for customs to open the parcel and inspect based on the form C22 asos uses to ship.
That means parcels can be opened officially .
By customs oh, Not nipost!
Some courier companies have now taken to charging exhorbitant rates in the name of duties incurred for shipping and customs.
Those are lies and attempts at defrauding you.
Ideally, for anything less than 30,000naira and personal use, import duties are waived.
This is from experience but I will confirm with the appropriate authorities.
I have never paid more than 2,000naira on duties and that was because the courier company was extortionist.
Express shipping is available at 20pounds. I’ve never used it
Someone who did recently got her order in 5days and was asked to pay 3,500 duties by the courier co.

7. It takes almost a month for most first orders to reach you.
Subsequently, the waiting time reduces.
Please be patient with orders.
Asos can be reached on twitter-
Handle is @asos and @asos_heretohelp
You can always send a message on the site as well.
Refunds and replacements are made if an order is truly missing.
This is one reason why I still use asos.

I hope this post helps someone out there, take advantage of the 50% off now and do some asos-ing.
I’m available to help with any issue regarding your orders, etc.

Update
I saw on the site today that only orders more than £500 would enjoy free express delivery.
Prior to now I got orders from about £80 free.
I guess Nigerians are hopping on asos and we have shown our spending prowess.
Issorai.
So yes, asos delivers to nigeria for free and you can shop with whatever amount you have.
Your purchase will come through and if it doesn’t, you can always get a refund or replacement.
I order frequently and my last purchases were £8 and £13 respectively. It doesn’t matter how much you spend.
Shipping is free.
There’s always a sale, discount or freebie.

Carnival calabar

So i went out for about three hours to enjoy the carnival.
It gets bigger each year, there’s really no stopping us with this one.
I took a miserly three or four pictures but I gleaned lots more from my friends and family to share the fun of Africa’s biggest street party with you.

Mr. Donald Duke, pioneer governor,  the brain behind the carnival.
The crowd went mad for him and that security guy ruined my selfie moment with him… ‘weeps’

Nip and Fab clean fix gel -Review

I bought the nip and Fab clean fix gel on asos this year.
It came as part of a set ‘the oily skin fix’ set which was an exclusive to asos set.
It cost about £12-£15.
Also available on debenhams which accepts nigerian cards but you ship to a UK address
The set had the clean fix gel, a spot fix gel and a shine fix gel.

I haven’t really given the shine fix gel a try but I didn’t use the spot fix because salicylic gels don’t help my acne.

The main ingredient in the clean fix gel is glycolic acid.
I must thank nip and fab for making it so available in their products.
image

It comes in a 200ml bottle with a pump and nice clean labeling.
The bottle is however not the best thing for travelling.. Unless you are extremely careful with packing, you’ll find the goo all over your stuff.
A little minus for packaging

Nip and fab clean fix gel Ingredients-
Water, cocoamidopropyl betaine, acrylates polymer, coco glucoside , Glycolic acid, Glycerin , sodium cocoyl apple amino acids, polysorbate esters, olive oil PEG -7 esters , Green tea extract , sodium hydroxide ,
Fragrance , Limolene, disodium EDTA, linalool, Dehydroacetic acid

And no parabens!
Thank the Lord!!

I used the gel as a cleanser mostly at night because I used a salicylic gel during the day.

Glycolic acid exfoliates skin but it increases photo sensitivity so its best to use at night where possible and wear sunscreen throught the period you use it.
Its good for adult acne.
Green tea extract is a natural antibacterial and antifungal.
Glycerin and oilve oil to moisturise the skin.
image

It washes makeup off well enough and controls acne very well, cleaning without overdrying.
I also used on my body.
Score -4/5

I will definitely be buying this again considering it kept the breakouts at bay and did so ever so kindly.
Its a product I’ll like to have around over and over..
A girl has to have options.

haircare, product reviews, trends

Hairven Haircare products (@hairvenhairpro) review

Where do I start this post ?
I was venting some two years ago on twitter about hair salons, weaves and haircare when @teddyvirgo introduced me to @hairvenhairpro

I contacted the ceo and adorable lovely soul she is, was so warm and sent me 10products at wholesale price.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to follow up on my promise to do a bulk order but I’m still going to make good on it.
This is one brand I’m sticking with until the end.

The packaging has changed to a more colourful and sleeker design as seen on their website
The range consists of products designed for weaves but believe me, I spent most of it on my real hair.

Shampoo-
image

Designed to infuse volume into light weightless hair,
While delicately freeing the hair and scalp of surface impurities and eliminating static.
Comes in a 472ml bottle with a tipcap.
This shampoo doesn’t frazzle hair like most others.
Have used a lot of shampoos but I keep coming back to this one.
Now I’m almost through it have reserved it for my weaves because no other one I’ve tried does as good a job as the hairven.

Conditioner-

image

The conditioner was made for magic.
Those are the words that best describe it.
You need to see the way weaves go from tangled to smooth and curly.
I just apply some of it from top to ends and finger comb through.
Instant magic.
If you like me have paid 4,000 naira at a salon to have your weaves washed, you”ll appreciate this lovely gift of DIY at home.
This conditioner is comparable to nikky clarkes.

Leave in conditioner
image

This came in a spray bottle and I’ve used it so much.
It makes my hair soft.
Especially useful when I have braids on, I find it conditions my scalp and hair.

Styling mousse
image

This is as good as styling mousse comes.
The key thing is it gives weighless volume
It doesn’t dry out hair.
I used it with the serum most often.
Can’t remember the price.

Serum-
Sorry, no pictures ….
I had ordered three bottles of serum.
My mum got one and gave it to her friend who keeps asking for it.
A friend bought one
I used the last one.

The defining moment of this serum was when I had one of those brazillian remi weaves on.
It was frazzled and tired after one week.
I trimmed the ends off then remembered I had serum.
After using it, you won’t believe I regretted trimming the ends.
I haven’t used any serum that’s as moisture infused as this.
The effect is wonderful
I used just one drop for each application
And it came in a dispenser bottle that had a cute pump.
Unfortunately I have finished it and I don’t have a picture to show.

You have to try this serum to understand how good it is.
No other has come close.
Avon dry ends serum comes a far second to this.
It was available for 2,500naira then but don’t know how much it is now.

So that’s my take on the hairven haircare range.
It is indeed better than some very well celebrated haircare brands out there and
If you have never supported a nigerian brand, here’s where to start.
You won’t regret the amazing quality.

I’ve been meaning to put out this review for ever but now is a good time as I hear Hairven will be relaunching the brand tomorrow. Info here – hairven launch
